Baldo (a native Nicaraguan) and Sarah (a Texan import) met in 2002 in San Juan del Sur, although both lived in other cities in Nicaragua. Their connection - to each other and to the small beach town - was instant, and five years later they found themselves getting married on the very beach where they met. For their first few years as permanent residents in San Juan del Sur, Baldo worked in tourism and continued to develop surfing through the Nicaraguan Surfing Association, which he founded, while Sarah worked at a non-profit organization focused on education. Baldo and Sarah, with their dog Shaka, saw their dream to have their own business come true when Casa Ariki's doors officially opened in November of 2010.
While living at and running Casa Ariki, Baldo keeps busy with various entrepreneurial projects and continues to develop surfing in Nicaragua, Sarah volunteers with several community development projects and Shaka is a frisbee-catching beach bum. Their combined knowledge of the country and its people is a guaranteed plus to anyone's vacation!
